HYTHE – Cormorant

£18.00

Hythe
Kid Mohair / Silk
50 grams = 420 m • 459 yds
Colourway: Cormorant – slightly cool grey. Its closest matches are Islington Old Smoke and Baskerville Dark Leaden, but it would look equally amazing as added to any of the brights to create a new, slightly less saturated hue. Just imagine it with Islington Padparadscha pink!

This kid Mohair/ silk is the softest you’ll ever feel, soft and warm against the skin. I don’t particularly like the usual grades of Mohair yarns available so sourced the softest possible. Give it a try. 😉

Mohair facts…

🐐Did you know mohair comes from the Angora goat? A little confusing as fluffy Angora fibre comes from rabbits! 🐰

🐐Kid Mohair is usually the 1st and 2nd shearing of an Angora goat, at 6 and 12 months.

🐐This grade is the most expensive as the kids, being tiny, don’t have a large amount of fur (1-2 kg) and this represents the finest fibre possible for the breed.

🐐Silk-like, mohair is a durable and resilient luxury fibre, with has a high lustre and sheen. It is warm in winter as it has excellent insulating properties, while remaining cool in summer due to its moisture wicking properties. It is durable, naturally elastic, flame resistant and crease resistant and dyes well.

QUICK TIP
As Hythe is a brushed yarn, the fibres really want to cling together in the hank. Before winding  it is a good idea to loosen up the hank. This will make it much easier and more pleasant to wind.😉

How? After un-winding the skein, just work your way around the loop, loosening up the individual strands by pulling them apart sideways all along the length of the hank before putting it on the swift or hand winding. There will be a bit of fluff that comes off once you start spinning the swift, but don’t worry, once it is knit into a cohesive fabric all that deliciously fluffy kid Mohair stays put!

Please note that the colour settings on your monitor may not display hues accurately and that as a hand-dyed product the colour intensity can very from skein to skein. Please email me directly before purchasing if you have any colour concerns. Thanks!

The softest kid mohair you’ll ever feel, spun with shimmering silk brushed to a form a nebulous cloud.

IMPORTANT!
Some of the intense colours colours, particularly the pinks/reds/yellows, are more prone to bleeding. Like all hand-dyers, I strongly recommend pre-washing bright colours if you are doing colourwork or striping to avoid disappointment in your finished garment. Read more… [/content_band]
