Rhombolutions in Rye

LInda Lencovic colourwork, original designs, WALTHAM - 100% British BFL

A stunning new pattern has come out this week in my WALTHAM 100% British Bluefaced Leicester blend (this time in DK weight) – Rhombolution by Renée Callahan (EastLondonKnit)!

This design is fully reversible – one dark side and one light – all knit at the same time with double-knitting! Brilliant. And as a bonus the pattern includes a thoughtful free photo tutorial for those new to the simple technique. Read about the pattern details and see more photos on Renée’s blog.

We trekked out to nearby Rye a few weeks ago to take some shots for this beauty, and totally lucked out as the day was unseasonably warm and sunny for October at a balmy 20°C! What a lovely day for photos and a wander in a pretty English seaside town.

We had some lunch at a place overlooking a lovely green valley, visited the famed Merchant and Mills store, took a photo of the elusive Renée in FRONT of the camera for a change, and took a wonderful noodle around town.

Many of our photos were taken on the picturesque Mermaid Street, the town’s high street back in 1670 and a haunt for many a smuggler back in the day. Filled with Tudor dwellings and break-ankle cobbles,  it was too perfect a backdrop for a to pass up! Even though it was a warm day, there were still some gusty sea winds, so I wore this cozy scarf around for hours as it was just too comfy to take off!

Renée used Peaky Blinder (dark grey) and Graveney (light silver) for this version, but I do have a few other colours in stock that would look lovely together for gifting.

If, like me,  you’ve never tried double knitting before, make sure you check out her various photo-tutorials on double knitting – how to cast on, etc. – on the ELK blog. She makes it look so easy, and I can imagine it is a pretty quick knit in DK weight.

And just so you know, Renée has also just released Hyssop in the new twist collective winter 2014, which is another stunner that would work beautifully in Waltham DK.

Or if you’re after a silk blend for a special gift I currently have 2 colours of Islington DK in shop as well.

Nice work ELK!
